Close...but another defeat for Panthers

The GMB Nottingham Panthers came up short in Manchester in the Elite League on Saturday night and went down by a 4-3 final scoreline.

Two first period goals put the Storm in the box seat at the start of the game but Matt Carter slotted home in the 14th minute to raise hopes of a comeback for the visitors.

But the same thing happened in the middle period and Manchester led 4-1 just past the half-way mark. In the dying seconds of the period Erik Lindhagen got the credit for a goal disputed by the home side and a set-to saw fighting penalties for Jeff Brown of Nottingham and Valcak of Storm along with other calls including a game misconduct for leaving the team bench for Trabucco of Manchester.

Alex Nikiforuk reduced the deficit with 12 minutes on the clock and although Panthers threw everything at the home net to try to force overtime, even with keeper Wiikman pulled in favour of an extra skater, it didn't happen.
