Early goals in Wales defeat the GMB Panthers

With coach Corey Neilson trying to manage his players’ minutes with an eye on Tuesday’s cup semi-final second leg in Sheffield Panthers gave up three early goals and paid the price for their slow start at Cardiff on Sunday night.

Henry Pacl was in goal for Nottingham with Dan Green backing-up on the bench. Panthers already missing Jeff Dimmen and Jason Williams to injury lost Logan MacMillan half-way through the first period due to a muscle strain.

It was all Cardiff from the first face-off and although Pacl made a couple of highlight reel saves he was finally beaten when a mis-hit shot from one side of the net squirted across to the back post for the opening goal at 5.10.

A well worked Devils powerplay goal at 9.43 doubled the ;lead and the home side added a third off a tight angle in the 13th minute.

Panthers were much brighter in the second period and created some good chances but there was no addition to the scoreboard largely thanks to a big save to deny Ollie Betteridge and both sides seemed content in the third period where there was little to report except for a second big save to deny Betteridge again.
