Farms pounces in O.T. Panthers take two points at home to Braehead

GMB Panthers had the better of the play in the first period in front of another big crowd at the National Ice Centre but trailed at the break to a powerplay goal for a visiting team that started short on bodies and with a gameplan based around flooding the neutral zone with bodies.

Panthers had lost Jeff Brown for twelve minutes to a harsh call in the first and picked up injuries along the way too but bounced back with two quick-fire second period goals. Brian McGrattan pounced at 21.37 after Robert Farmer threw the puck on net and although his attempt to tip home on the next shift went wide, one shift later Robert Lachowicz found Matt Carter in the middle and his wrist-shot upstairs was a corker to put the home side in front.

It stayed like that until Clan fired one home off netminder Miika Wiikman’s chest in the third only for a sweet stretch pass to send in Brown one-on-one and he rifled Nottingham back in front at 48.23.

When Nottingham failed to clear the defensive zone Clan popped home an equaliser for a 3-3 scoreline and the game went to overtime.

A penalty on the hooter meant Panthers started on the powerplay and although they peppered the visitors net Braehead got their man back only to lose him again at 62.57 and this time Jason Williams fed Framer from behind the goal line and the GB international hammered home for a sudden-death home victory.
