GMB Panthers beat Blaze in front of another huge Saturday crowd

With the team’s main sponsors also sponsoring the match the GMB guests were treated to a solid Panthers’ victory. Both keepers made good saves in a goalless first period but a spell of four against four action saw Nottingham take control with two goals in 53 seconds of second period action in a match that ended with 4-1 scoreline.

Geoff Waugh jumped into the play from defence to nail the five-hole at 37.32 and then Panthers got the handcuffs off Robert Farmer who turned in a highlight reel finish upstairs on the backhand to double the lead.

Blaze scored on a rebound after a two-on-one breakout in the 46th minute but three minutes later a series of sharp passes found Stephen Schultz to the left of goal and he smashed home on a powerplay to restore the two goal cushion.

When the visitors pulled their keeper late on Panthers worked the puck out of their own zone, David Clarke chipped it forward and Robert Lachowicz carried it up the ice to put a cherry on top of the cake with an empty-net goal twenty seconds from time.

Twenty-two year old Latvian Deivids Sarkanis made his debut for Panthers which allowed the coaches to ice three complete lines plus a rotation of the other two forwards combined with some double-shifting along the way.
