GMB Panthers beat Dundee (2-1) to keep league run going

Top of the table GMB Nottingham Panthers deservedly came away with both points in front of another big home crowd with a 2-1 victory over the hard-working visiting Dundee Stars.

Panthers did everything but score in a goalless first period before Petr Kalus on his debut combined with Alex Nikiforuk to set up the advancing Jeff Dimmen who fired home a super wrist shot upstairs to open the scoring in the 24th minute. After that Dundee had three separate powerplay opportunities to get back on terms but Panthers' penalty killers were in outstanding form once more and when Brian MacGrattan came out of the box and created one chance the pressure was on the visitors and the big guy combined with Andy Sertich and Jeff Brown to get the puck to Dimmen again who blasted home from the blueline.

Panthers hit the pipework twice late in the middle period and again at the start of the third. Robert Farmer's shot ricocheted off the bar and carried such speed it flew into the doorway under Block Four. Stars got one back in the 47th minute to increase tensions but Panthers always seemed on top. Miika Wiikman made a clutch of saves when he needed to and although Dundee pulled their keeper late in the game there was only one more save needed to secure the win and when Panthers cleared the puck the clock ran out before Robert Lachowicz could hit the empty net at the other end.
