GMB Panthers earn Continental Cup clean sweep to go through

The GMB Panthers made it three wins out of three with a solid 3-1 win over the Latvian champions.

Nottingham now progress to the next round in November in Denmark.

Miika Wiikman was in the nets for the final game of the Panthers' trip to Jaca in Spain. Steve Lee was rested after he played in back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday on his return from injury.

The Latvians opened the scoring on a power play at 2.07 but man of the match David Clarke stole the puck on their blue line during four-on-four action and fired home off the keeper to equalise in the thirteenth minute.

Great hustle behind their net by Jeff Brown won the puck and he threw it in front where Clarke bagged his second from the closest of ranges.

Both sides had bright spells in the middle period and as Nottingham pressed around the half-way stage, Miika Wiikman was at his best to deny a break away and then stretch to block out the rebound shot as well.

Panthers were on a power play as the period drew to a close and the two goal cushion came by way of a clinical power play finished in great style at the back post by Matt Carter with just 16 seconds left on the clock.

Panthers changed their game plan in the third and shut the game down to perfection to book their place in Odense for the third round.
