GMB Panthers secure come-from-behind win in Coventry

The GMB Nottingham Panthers kept their festive success going with a 2-4 victory at Coventry on Thursday night.

The sides meet again on New Year’s Eve at three o’clock in Nottingham.

In Coventry Blaze took the lead early in the first and doubled it even earlier in the second with two similar plays that both ended in back door finishes.

Panthers killed a massive five-on-three powerplay in the first period, Panthers had Henry Pacl in nets because of sickness to Number One Miika Wiikman, and he made some big saves along the way, earning special mention from head coach Corey Neilson in his exclusive interview with Panthers Radio (in association with Xynomix) after the game.

Panthers enjoyed decent possession throughout the game and the home goalie was just as busy as Pacl. He was finally beaten when Dan Spang fired from point and the shot was half-saved before it looped over and in at 28.56.

Just under four minutes later Erik Lindhagen fired home from similar range through traffic and the game was tied at 2-2 going into the final period.

Panthers were awarded a goal in the 45th minute when they turned the puck in to a net that had been dislodged and the goal was eventually wiped off the board after lengthy discussions amongst the match officials.

But Nottingham soon took the lead anyway when great hustle down the left wing by Ollie Betteridge won the puck and he turned it inside for Matt Carter who in turn slid it across to the on rushing Jeff Brown to smash home at 46.36.

Blaze pulled their keeper late on and new signing Jason Williams took his tally to three goals and one assist for four points in three games when he hit the empty net right from the middle of the Blaze logo centre ice to wrap up the scoring.
