GMB Panthers start with a win in Scotland

The new Elite League season faced off with the first of Nottingham's three games in three nights in Scotland where the Panthers came away with both points after a solid road game that ended Dundee Stars 1 GMB Panthers 3.

In a penalty free slightly delayed first period (road delays en route for Panthers) Jeff Dimmen and Brad Moran combined to set up David Clarke at the blueline and he fired home long range at 16.17. With Panthers increasingly finding their legs after the long trip the scoreboard stayed that way until the 36th minute when the visitors rattled home two in 31 seconds to take a commanding and game-winning lead.

First Geoff Waugh stepped in off the hash marks on the right wing boards to set up Clarke for his second of the match and next shift Chris Lawrence got the puck across the blueline to Jeff Dimmen who skated forward to the top of the circle to find a corner for Panthers' third.

With fifteen seconds left a ricochet saw the puck land at the back door for Stars to spoil Miika Wiikman's shut-out hopes but the two goal margin at the second break proved more than enough.

Panthers pulled off a great 5-on-three penalty kill in the third period and later Stars pulled their keeper for an extra skater for the last two minutes but the Nottingham defence held firm to record an opening night victory.
