Gutsy win for Panthers in Cardiff in the cup (1-3)

The GMB Nottingham turned in a gutsy blue-collar hard-working performance on the road to make it a second four point weekend in as many weeks.

Panthers were without Steve Lee, Stephen Schultz and David Clarke through injury and lost Chris Lawrence before the end of the second period.

Henry Pacl started in nets for Nottingham and was deservedly named man of the match at the end of his first Panthers' victory.

Nottingham took the lead in the first period when Logan MacMillan chipped the wall to get down the left wing and past a D-man before turning the puck inside for Chris Lawrence in the middle channel who picked his spot at 8.02.

Former Panther Richardson floated one in from point just 27 seconds into the middle period and there was no further scoring before the second break.

Just as Devils had in the second, Nottingham scored early doors in the third when Matt Carter fired home from tight on the left wing boards and when Nottingham broke out three-on-two the puck was turned inside to the middle channel and in the 49th minute captain Brad Moran fired home for a two goal cushion.

Devils went for the six skater ploy and pulled their keeper with over two-and-a-half minutes to go in regulation but the Panthers kept up the hard work and shut down passes and blocked shots through to the hooter.
