High scoring third period sees Coventry beat Panthers 6-5

GMB Panthers twice gave up three goals leads in pre-season action at Coventry on Wednesday night.

The game was a tight affair through to the second break by which time Panthers had come from behind to lead 1-2 with goals late in the first from Andy Sertich at the blueline (powerplay) and early in the second from Robert Farmer.

Both sides swapped their netminders in the third period and the home back-up was first to crack with Farmer again and Geoff Waugh on target, both in the 42nd minute.

Blaze took their time-out and then got one back when Dan Green was beaten on a double rebound for a 2-4 scoreline at 42.44.

Just eight seconds later Panthers restored the three goal cushion when Farmer hit his hat-trick but the home side put four goals away in the space of less than ten minutes.

With their keeper pulled in favour of an extra skater Panthers hit the pipework for the third time in the game but got no closer to an equaliser.

Dan Spang had a solid debut for Panthers and Jeff Dimmen and Stephen Schultz both had decent games in their first outings of the season.
