Last gasp winner against Fife and Panthers make it a four point weekend

The GMB Nottingham Panthers left it late but grabbed both points with a winning goal with just 45 seconds left on the game clock.

Nottingham started in fluent and dominating fashion but visiting netminder Owen was in sparkling form and the sides were still tied goalless at the first break.

It was all Nottingham again in the second period and Andy Sertich walked in from right point and picked his spot to open the scoring at 22.56. Fellow defenceman Dan Spang twisted and turned his way in from the same area a couple of shifts later and when his shot off a tight angle caused a rebound and the puck lay in the crease area Alex Nikiforuk got their first to deservedly double Panthers’ lead.

Panthers were in comfortable control but when they failed to clear their zone just before the half-way mark Fife walked the puck in and took full advantage to open their account. Panthers hit the pipes on a powerplay and then with more pressure on Owen Fife broke out and tied the game with 62 seconds left on the period.

Despite the heavy shot count in favour of the home team it remained at a 2-2 scoreline until the last minute of regulation time. Robert Farmer drove down the right wing and fed the front where Nikiforuk turned in for the game winning goal at 59.15.

Flyers took their time out and pulled their keeper but Panthers held firm for a four point weekend haul.
