Panthers make it back-to-back wins in Edinburgh (3-4 on Sunday)

For the second time in as many nights the GMB Nottingham Panthers came away from the Murrayfield rink with a regulation time victory in which the one goal victory margin failed to justify the run of play.

Just as happened on Saturday the Capitals pulled their goalie to score with six skaters to reduce the deficit in the closing minutes (this time in dramatic fashion on a late powerplay to boot).

Miika Wiikman was back in nets for Nottingham, Matt Carter was back from his sickbed and Robert Farmer was back from suspension. Brian McGrattan was the healthy scratch for ma full-strength Panthers still coping with some sickness in the camp and playing their third game in three nights.

After dominating the opening exchanges Robert Lachowicz fired one off the left wing which clipped the outside of the goal frame, he got to the puck first and fed the middle channel where Jeff Dimmen had jumped into the play to rifle home at 11.35.

A bouncing bomb of a loose puck fell kindly for the home side and they equalised in the 16th minute.

Panthers took the lead again in the second period when Stephen Schultz picked off a clearing pass and stole forward to snipe a go-ahead goal at 25.41 but Caps got in one-on-one to equalise again three minutes later.

After killing off some penalties on harsh calls Panthers got back to full-strength and worked the puck out to the right wing where Alex Nikiforuk delivered a rocket of a shot into the top corner at 48.37 and Erik Lindhagen from beyond the goal line cleverly snapped the puck into a forest of players and it ricocheted off the defence and in for a two goal cushion at 52.27.

Soon after that goal Panthers had a single shift of three minutes camped out in the attack zone. With no further addition to the scoring though the Capitals gambled and pulled their keeper for an extra skater with 2.45 left in the game. Another penalty against Panthers saw puzzled looks all round and the Caps went six skaters against four and scored at the back door. They pulled their keeper again for the last minute and although there were a couple of scrambles Panthers saw it home.
