Second win in as many nights in Scotland for the GMB Panthers

The GMB Panthers picked up their second road win of their Scottish three-in-three trip with a 2-3 victory at Edinburgh on Saturday night.

In a game that won’t go down as the prettiest of the season – half the team seeing the big Murrayfield ice surface for the first time – Nottingham did more than enough to take the victory.

Stephen Schultz was back in the line-up. Matt Carter was sick, Robert Farmer suspended, and Jason Williams injured. Henry Pacl was in nets.

Panthers jumped to a two goal lead in the space of 30 seconds in the 11th minute of the game. Ollie Betteridge drove the right wing and threw the puck on net where Steve Lee had jumped into the play and the puck ricocheted home.
Next shift Robert Lachowicz found Deivids Sarkanis, he went behind the net and fed the front for Ollie Betteridge to rattle home a second.

The second period was a somewhat more scrappy affair and at the half-way stage Caps got one back off a rebound but at 37.50 Stephen Schultz picked up the puck at the top of the left circle, danced through the defence to the bottom of the right circle and fired home to restore the two goal cushion.

There were to be no penalties throughout the whole game despite some blatant trips on Panthers at the start of the third period, meanwhile the scoreboard didn’t budge until the home side pulled their keeper for the last 90 seconds and with the extra skater got one back with 44 seconds left on the clock.

They pulled him again after the re-start and there was one scramble round Panthers’ net without success as they pushed for an equaliser that never came.
