Spang double helps Nottingham start road trip with a win in Dundee

The GMB Nottingham Panthers started their road trip to Scotland with a solid 1-4 victory at Dundee on Friday night.

Panthers were missing Schultz, Williams, Pacl and Farmer from the line-up and shook off their bus legs to take the lead in the first period. Dan Spang rang the bell and the puck went round the back of the net and out the other side at 3.58. The goal wasn’t given at the time but at the first whistle afterwards the linesmen advised the referee and the goal was awarded.

In the middle period a Jeff Dimmen shot saw a rebound fall to captain Brad Moran and he turned in a second goal for the visitors just past half-way. Stars got one back when they latched on to a pass through centre ice and Poulin carried in to beat Miika Wiikman for what was to be the only home goal of the night at 36.48.

Panthers saved the best ‘til last with a faster and harder third period. Moran’s backhand pass set up David Clarke to rip home a third goal in the 43rd minute and when Stars were hustled into a give-away Dan Spang pounced on the puck at the blueline, skated forward a few yards and nailed the top shelf at 48.02 to round off the scoring.
