Two out of two so far in Scotland - Clan 1 Panthers 4

GMB Panthers started at full available strength but lost Stephen Schultz to injury early in the first period.

Clan took the lead against the run of play in the ninth minute but Nottingham equalised on a powerplay less than a minute later when Matt Carter fired home from in front after a pinpoint pass from Chris Lawrence, also assisted by Jeff Dimmen.

Clan increased their shot count as the period wore on but Nottingham killed off the only other call of the first period and the teams went in at the first break tied 1-1.

Miika Wiikman was busy in the second period but it was the Panthers who edged in front after good work in the offensive zone involving Erik Lindhagen and Chris Lawrence and a blast upstairs from Dan Spang in the 39th minute.

Panthers had momentum in the third and on a double-powerplay Brad Moran fed the puck across the face and Chris Lawrence rattled home Panthers’ third of the night at 51.19 for a two goal cushion.

A late penalty against Lindhagen for tripping at 57.35 gave Clan a lifeline as they took their time-out and pulled their keeper to go six skaters against four for some late drama.

But Panthers killed the penalty and when they won a face-off in their own zone with 15 seconds left they worked the puck to the Swede who hit the empty-net with one second left on the clock.
