Wiikman has 29 shot shut-out in 2-0 win over Cardiff

In front of a crowd near to six thousand Miika Wiikman was the star of the show as the Panthers registered just 13 shots on goal but thrilled the home fans with a 2-0 victory over Cardiff in a game that counted towards both league and cup competitions.

With the big crowd urging them on the GMB Panthers killed off a massive five-on-three Devils powerplay in the first period and then took the lead when Chris Lawrence dangled through the offensive zone before picking out the bottom corner for the only goal (16.00).

Panthers went into a more defensive gameplan in the second period and Bowns in the visiting net had just one shot on target to deal with but the score remained in favour of the home side at the second break.

Having denied a one-on-one in the middle period Wiikman was again the busier goalie in the last period but battling Panthers kept the Devils at bay and when they pulled their keeper in order to ice an extra skater in the last minute a lofted clearance saw David Clarke win the race to the puck and carrying it up the ice to slide home the empty-net sealing goal.

Match sponsors Forbidden Planet gave the man of the match award to 29-shot shut-out man Wiikman.
