Match Report
Nottingham Panthers made it a four-point weekend in the Challenge Cup with a 4-3 victory over Guildford Flames.
Panthers named the same line-up from Friday night's 4-0 victory in Manchester, with Ryan Bednard between the pipes and Luca Sheldon as back-up.
Herr and Doherty score in first period
Matt Spencer, Hugo Roy and Sam Herr had early chances for the Panthers and at the other end, Bednard made great saves to deny Matt Alvaro, Jake Coughler and Sean Norris.
A close-range rebound from Herr put Panthers ahead (13:53) and Tim Doherty made it 2-0 when he forced the puck over the line after a goalmouth scramble (18:12).
Panthers lost Cooper Zech to injury before Herr was denied by Jake Kupsky on penalty-shot inside the final minute of period after he was slashed on a breakaway.
Flames hit back before Herr scores his second
Guildford scored twice in just under four minutes to tie the game in the second period.
After Bednard made a good close-range save, Ryan Tait put in the rebound to close the gap on the powerplay (26:51) and Guildford equalised when Daniel Catenacci finished-off a two-on-one break (30:32).
Herr put Panthers back in-front when he used his strength to bundle the puck over the line on the doorstep after a great play from Josh Tetlow (39:13).
Roy scores great powerplay goal as Panthers secure two points
Roy went top-shelf on the powerplay after good work by Kristoff Kontos and David Bunz to stretch Nottingham's lead to two (48:56).
Waller hit the bar for the Flames and then Bednard made a great save to deny the Flames forward on a breakaway, before shutting the door to deny Alvaro.
Alvaro scored on a six-on-five play with the netminder lifted for the extra skater in the closing stages (58:20), but Panthers stood firm to secure their second two points of the weekend.
