Match Report
A short-benched Nottingham Panthers picked up a point but were beaten 1-0 on the road at Cardiff Devils after overtime.
Panthers were once again without forwards Mitch Fossier and Otto Nieminen - and lost Reid Stefanson and Jaakko Niskala to injury during the game
Jason Grande made 46 saves and produced another outstanding performance, with Jere Huhtamaa icing as back-up.
Panthers on top but no goals in first period
Devils forward Cole Sanford hit the pipes on a first-period powerplay and later saw his close-range shot well saved by Grande.
At the other end, Panthers created the better chances as Ollie Betteridge shot just wide while Hugo Roy and Matt Spencer had shots saved by Mac Carruth on the powerplay.
Devils dominate scoreless second session
Cardiff were totally on top in the second period, creating a number of clear-cut chances but Grande was in outstanding form once again.
The Panthers netminder made a number of top-class saves including stops to deny Joey Martin, Riley Brandt, Evan Mosey and Brett Perlini - and Devils also hit the pipes three times.
Panthers' best chances came on the powerplay for Matt Alfaro and Kristoff Kontos, while Stefanson was unable to complete the period because of injury
Grande contines to put on a clinic
Panthers lost Niskala to injury early in the third period and Devils continued to pile on the pressure with Grande making outstanding saves on Josh MacDonald and Ryan Barrow.
Despite being so short-benched, Panthers ended the session strong with chances for Alfaro, Kontos and Didrik Henbrant.
Devils win it in overtime
Overtime was end-to-end and Sam Herr went so close to winning it but shot just wide.
Devils won it when they broke clear and Sanford fired low past Grande to secure the extra point (61:47).
