Nottingham Panthers secured an impressive 4-1 victory on the road at Dundee Stars on Sunday night in the Elite League.

Panthers remained without defenceman Quinn Wichers while Ryan Bednard also missed out because of injury.

Jason Grande started between pipes with British netminder Luca Sheldon as back-up.

Doherty and Alfaro score in first period
The game sparked into life inside the opening two minutes with Panthers defenceman Josh Tetlow dropping the gloves with Xavier Pouliot.

Panthers opened the scoring just 23 seconds later as Matt Alfaro set-up Tim Doherty who fired top-shelf from the slot (2:17).

Grande did well to stop Drydn Dow's deflected shot and Jonathan McBean's tip, before Doherty's clever backhand pass fed Matt Alfaro who pulled a neat move on netminder Richard Sabol to give Panthers a two-goal lead (18:23).

Henbrant extends Panthers' lead
Panthers scored 26 seconds into the second session as Didrik Henbrant fired a one-timer from the slot following Otto Nieminen's feed from behind the net (20:26).

Spencer Naas' shot from the left-circle forced a good save from Grande who then stopped Cole MacDonald's effort from just inside the blueline.

Nieminen seals win with empty-netter
Zachary Tsekos hit the pipes on an early third-period powerplay for the Stars, before Brett Gravelle netted from close-range to get the hosts on the board (45:13).

Grande continued to impress and made a good save to deny Philippe Sanche as the clock ticked down.

Nieminen sealed the victory with an empty-net goal with 10 seconds remaining (59:50).

Sell-out expected for visit of Coventry on Saturday
After a weekend on the road, Panthers return to the Motorpoint Arena on Saturday for the visit of Coventry Blaze (7pm).
