The Nottingham Panthers can today confirm the signing of forward Brett Welychka for the 2022/23 Premier Sports Elite League season.

Brett joins the Panthers from Slovakian side HC Presov where he recorded 30 points (15 goals and 15 assists) in 47 regular and post-season games.

Prior to joining the Slovakian outfit in 2021, the forward spent the previous two seasons in Denmark with Rødovre Mighty Bulls (2020/21) and Esbjerg Energy (2019/20), adding 52 points (14 goals and 38 assists) to his resume in 80 Metal Ligaen games.

Brett got his first taste of professional ice hockey when he joined the AHL’s Manitoba Moose (2017/18) after graduating from Carleton University, who he captained in his third and final season playing in the highly rated Canadian USports league. He split his first full season as a pro (2018/19) with the Rockford IceHogs (AHL) and Indy Fuel (ECHL) before heading overseas in 2019/20.

The native of London, Ontario, Canada also has an impressive record in junior hockey. He iced in 275 games in the Ontario Hockey League with the London Knights, winning two OHL championships (2011/12 and 2012/13) and also the Belleville Bulls, where he served as the team captain in his final junior season.

Head Coach Gary Graham spoke to panthers.co.uk about adding Brett to his roster for the 2022/23 season:

“Brett is a dynamic player who has a very exciting style of play.

“He has a high compete level and is a consistent player in all three zones, he will play an important role on our team this year.”
