Nottingham Panthers were beaten 2-1 on the road at Glasgow Clan in their opening game of the Elite League season.

Cooper Zech and Kristoff Kontos were both out of the line-up, so Panthers called up British players Bradley Bowering and Oli Endicott. Netminder Ryan Bednard started between the pipes with Rok Stojanovic as back-up.

Former Panthers player and coach Corey Neilson - now in charge of the Clan - coached against his former club for the first time, while the trip to Scotland saw Logan Neilson play against his brother Cade for the first time in a professional game.

Clan lead by a goal at first intermission
Cade Neilson fed Tyson McLellan who gave the hosts an early lead from the slot (3:17).

Glasgow had the better of the opening stages and Bednard had to be at this best to stop efforts from Cole Ully and Gary Haden.

At the other end, Logan Neilson fed Reid Stefanson but his shot was saved while Hugo Roy and Davis Bunz had chances on the powerplay.

Hosts lead by two after second period
Didrik Henbrant's shot was tipped over by Sam Herr and Josh Tetlow saw his shot saved as Panthers started the second period well.

But Glasgow scored their second when good perseverance by Chris McKay set-up Rylan Schwartz to score from the right-circle (28:50) and moments later, Bednard made a superb point-blank pad save to deny Deven Sideroff.

Panthers finished the period strong and Landon Bow made top-class saves to stop efforts from Otto Nieminen and Reid Stefanson.

Henbrant on target but Clan secure victory
Bednard made a super stop to turn away McKay's shot and also did well to keep out Liam Finlay's effort.

Herr was denied from close-range and Henbrant - who set-up the chance originally - pounced on the rebound to reduce the arrears to one (50:45).

Bednard was lifted for the extra skater with 90 seconds remaining, but Panthers took a late penalty and were unable to get any momentum as Clan secured the two points.

Fife next at home for Panthers
Panthers travel to Sheffield Steelers in the Challenge Cup on Saturday, before returning to the Motorpoint Arena on Sunday for the Elite League home-opener.

Fife Flyers are the visitors to Nottingham (4pm face-off) in a game sponsored by GVL Recovery.
