LUNSJO JOINS PANTHERS FOR 2023-24 SEASON

Swedish forward Alexander Lunsjo has signed a contract with The Nottingham Panthers for the 2023-24 season.

The 26-year-old arrives at the Motorpoint Arena from the highly-rated Allsvenskan league - the second tier of hockey in Sweden.

Lunsjo began his professional career in his home town of Helsingborgs and quickly made a big impression, signing for Rogle in Sweden's top tier as a teenager.

He followed that with two seasons in the HockeyEttan league where he scored 79 points (30+49) in 89 regular-season matches for Kallinge/Ronneby.

Lunsjo returned to the Allsvenskan league and after a year with Almtuna, he's spent the past four campaigns with Västerås, scoring 13 goals and contributing 11 assists last season.

Jonathan Paredes, Head Coach of The Nottingham Panthers, said: "Alex is a player with a really high-end skillset while being reliable defensively.

"He has had a lot of success in a defensive league. We feel the Elite League will fit even more his style of play.

"He has a nice offensive touch at the net but also a good creative mind. He plays hard and can play all situations.

"Alex had a lot of interest from the Allsvenskan again and in other leagues, so we are happy he has committed to be a Panther."

Lunsjo said: "I had a few chats with Omar (Pacha) and Jonathan (Paredes) and they told me how the club works. They told me how they want to play hockey and I think that fits me well.

"I talked with a few guys who played in the league last year and they told me so many good things about Nottingham. It's my first time out of Sweden but I feel everything is a good fit for me.

"I love to have the puck and set guys up as well as score, but I take big pride from my play in the d-zone. I am looking forward to being part of this Panthers team."

Lunsjo will wear #56 for the Panthers this season.
