ONE-MATCH SUSPENSION FOR HENBRANT
The Nottingham Panthers forward Didrik Henbrant has been suspended for one match for slashing so will miss tonight's Elite League game on-the-road at Glasgow Clan.
Henbrant committed the offence in last night's 2-1 overtime victory against Dundee Stars at the Motorpoint Arena.
Here's the statement on the Elite League website from the Department of Player Safety...
As the video shows (click here), Henbrant enters the attacking zone in pursuit of the puck gaining control behind the net, with Allen making a defensive play forcing Henbrant to lose the puck which is picked up by a team-mate at the top of the circle.
Henbrant then receives a pass and skates with the puck back towards the goal net with Allen in pursuit, passes it in front of the net and continues to skate behind the goal.
With Henbrant no longer in possession of the puck, Allen continues skating towards him and makes a late hit along the end boards which itself is worthy of a minor penalty.
With Henbrant on the ice and Allen standing next to him looking towards the play in the corner, and the puck coming back towards him, Henbrant gets up from the ice and places the shaft of his stick between Allen’s legs. With two hands on his stick, he raises it and forcefully makes contact with Allen’s groin area. This is slashing.
The reason for supplementary discipline is the choice of contact Henbrant makes with Allen. This isn’t a hockey play. Regardless of whether Henbrant is aggrieved for the earlier hit or not, all contact here, especially with the stick, is completely avoidable. The use of the stick in this manner is reckless with a high potential to injure Allen, who is unaware and unable to protect himself.
To summarise...
- Slashing
- No history - Henbrant has neither been suspended nor fined during the 2023-24 EIHL season.
Effective immediately, Nottingham Panthers #98 Didrik Henbrant is fined and suspended for one game. The Panthers were informed of this suspension at 8:19am.
