PANTHERS SIGN FORWARD TIM DOHERTY
American forward Tim Doherty has signed a deal with the Nottingham Panthers for the 2024-25 campaign.
The 28-year-old arrives at the Panthers from Cortina who he helped reached the final of the Alps Hockey League playoffs.
He joined the Italian side from North America at the backend of last season and scored seven points in eight regular-season matches, before added 21 points (7+14) in the playoffs and was the league's leading scorer in the post-season.
Doherty scored nearly 100 points in his four years in the NCAA and turned pro in his final year at college, earning himself a contract at ECHL side Allen Americans.
He made the move to Wheeling Nailers the same season and the following year scored 45 points (27+18) in his first full campaign as a professional, playing on the same team as recent signing Matt Alfaro.
In 2022-23 he joined Maine Mariners where he led the team in points (73) and assists (52) in 69 regular-season matches.
After splitting his time between Maine and Cincinnati Cyclones last season, Doherty made the move to Europe to join Cortina.
Doherty said: "I am super excited to get to Nottingham. I have heard a lot of great things about Danny (Stewart) from talking to guys who have played for him before.
"I have also heard great things about Nottingham from guys who have played there before and I have been doing my own research on the team and the city.
"I have watched videos of the Panthers fans and heard they are amazing. I can't wait."
Panthers Head Coach, Danny Stewart, said: "Tim is a great addition for us.
"We’ve got a lot of speed and shooters in our line-up and we felt we needed a guy that could get these guys pucks in good situations. Tim does that.
"He’s an elite passer and has a very high hockey IQ. He’s gonna be an important piece of our offence five-on-five and on the powerplay."
