Nottingham Panthers were beaten 4-2 by Belfast Giants on Saturday night in the Elite League at the SSE Arena.

Panthers were without defenceman Quinn Wichers who continues his recovery, while netminder Ryan Bednard also missed the game because of injury.

Jason Grande got his second successive start between pipes with Luca Sheldon as back-up.

Kontos and Fossier both score on powerplay
Grande made two saves in quick succession before Kyle Osterberg fed Pierre-Olivier Morin who fired top-shelf to put the hosts ahead (7:43).

Panthers turned the first period around with a pair of powerplay goals as Mitch Fossier's clever backhand pass set-up Kristoff Kontos to score the equaliser (16:09).

Sam Herr and Matt Alfaro combined to find Fossier and his deflected shot beat former Panther Jackson Whistle (18:37) as Panthers netted twice in two-and-a-half minutes.

Giants equalise in second period
Herr went close inside the first minute of the second period, before Giants stepped-up the intensity with Ciaran Long hitting the bar and Grande making a glove save to stop Morin.

Giants drew level when Bobo Carpenter buried a rebound from close-range (32:53).

Empty-net goal secures win for the hosts
Fossier and Herr had chances on the same shift, but Belfast went ahead when Long beat Grande on a breakaway (46:58).

Grande made a superb save to deny Carpenter, before Panthers went close through Otto Nieminen.

Panthers lifted Grande for the extra skater with just under two minutes remaining and Giants sealed the game when Scott Conway scored into the empty net from his own zone (59:49).

Dundee on the road tomorrow and then Panthers host Coventry
The three-game road trip moves onto Scotland tomorrow as Panthers travel to Dundee Stars (5pm).
