Nottingham Panthers produced another hard-fought performance with a 4-3 victory in Scotland against Fife Flyers after penalty-shots.

Hugo Roy was the only scorer in the shootout and man-of-the-match Ryan Bednard turned away all five efforts from the Flyers.

Bednard started for the second night in succession between the pipes with Luca Sheldon as back-up, while Cooper Zech was the only player missing as he recovers from a lower body injury.

There were no goals in the first period but Ollie Betteridge hit the pipes and Reid Stefanson and Matt Spencer had chances on the powerplay.

The hosts took the lead early in the second session through Maxim Musorov's one-timer from the left-circle (22:40), but Panthers quickly hit back on the man advantage.

A shot from the blueline by Davis Bunz was saved by Shane Owen and the puck fell to Roy to bury the rebound (25:58).

Bednard made good saves to deny Martin Látal and Musorov, before Panthers took the lead when Stefanson's shot was kicked by Owen into the path of Otto Nieminen who drove the net to bury the puck (32:06).

Flyers equalised on the powerplay just as the period drew to a close through Nikolai Shulga's one-timer from the slot (38:28).

The third period burst into life with two goals in 84 seconds as a neat breakaway finish by Fife forward Lucas Chiodo (43:52) was followed by Logan Neilson getting the final touch to a shot by Kristoff Kontos to equalise (45:16).

With no further scoring the game went to overtime and Sam Herr was denied on a breakaway, while Bednard made two good saves at the other end.

The Panthers netminder stood tall in the shootout as Fife failed to score and Roy's effort was the game-winner to help secure a four-point weekend.
