The Nottingham Panthers defenceman Mike Caruso has been reflecting on his career after reaching 800 professional games last weekend at Belfast Giants.

Caruso was selected in the fourth round by the Florida Panthers in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and played two games for them in the 2012-13 season.

He played most of his early career in the American Hockey League and had spells in Europe with Dornbirner EC (EBEL), Fehervar AV19 (EBEL/ICEHL) and HC Pusteral (ICEHL), before joining the Panthers in the summer.

"It was nice to be recognised for the milestone and it took me on a trip down Memory Lane," said Caruso.

"It's been a wonderful journey and I have loved every minute of it."

Caruso made his NHL debut for Florida on 19th January 2013 against Carolina Hurricanes and also played three days later on-the-road at Montreal Canadiens, but his stint was cut short by injury.

"It was a dream come true to reach the NHL," he said. "It didn't happen easily but the stars aligned and I got the call-up.

"It is one of my best hockey memories and I was very honoured to play in the NHL - and I have so many fond memories."

The Panthers have a home double-header this weekend in the Viaplay Elite League with Cardiff Devils visiting the Motorpoint Arena on Saturday (7pm) and Dundee Stars on Sunday (4pm).
