The Nottingham Panthers defenceman Mike Caruso says "it's an honour" to be named as captain for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.

The 35-year-old, who joined the Panthers in 2022, was named as the club's Most Valuable Player last season.

Caruso played twice for Florida Panthers after being selected in the fourth round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft and went on to play over 350 games in the AHL, as well as having extensive experience in Europe.

"Being named captain of the Panthers is really, really special for me," said Caruso. "I love playing for this club and the amazing supporters who back us week in, week out.

"My family love Nottingham and it's such a good feeling to call the Motorpoint Arena and this great city our home.

"We have a superb leadership group and such a great group of guys across the dressing room. We've stuck together since day one and nothing is going to change that this season.

"This club has such a fantastic tradition and it's an honour to be appointed captain."

Caruso will lead Panthers for the first time this evening against Belfast Giants at the Motorpoint Arena (7pm) - a game sponsored by Loughborough Business School.

Over 5,000 tickets have already been sold and a very large Saturday night crowd is expected. You are advised to purchase tickets as soon as possible.
