REPORT: PANTHERS 1-4 STEELERS
The Nottingham Panthers were beaten 4-1 by Sheffield Steelers at the Motorpoint Arena in the Viaplay Elite League on Saturday night.
Peyton Jones started between the pipes with Alex Dubeau as back-up, while Adam Brady returned to the line-up after two weekends out.
Forwards Jeremy Welsh and Luke Ferrara (both day-to-day) were both missing, while defenceman Albin Lindgren had to be scratched after warm-up (precaution).
Matthew Petgrave's wrist-shot from just inside the blueline put Sheffield ahead (15:32), while Daniel Ciampini netted number two from close-range (19:08).
Panthers went close early in the second period when a neat backhand pass from Jack Hopkins set-up David Levin, but his shot was saved.
Niko Lahtinen and Adam Brady had chances on the powerplay, while Stephen Anderson went close with a wraparound attempt.
Scott Allen cut away from his man before firing a superb finish past Jones (41:45), while giveaway on the blueline enabled Brendan Connolly to waltz in for a fourth (49:42).
Dubeau replaced Jones for the closing stages and he made a good save to deny Ciampini a breakaway.
Stephen Anderson broke the shutout as he broke away short-handed and produced a neat finish past Matt Greenfield (58:55).
Panthers are back in action tomorrow night with a trip to Guildford Flames (6pm face-off).
