The Nottingham Panthers stepped up their preparations for the new season with a day with the Army and HMS Sherwood Royal Navy at Chetwynd Barracks.

Players and staff underwent a variety of mental and physical challenges throughout an action-packed day that lasted nearly 12 hours.

Players split into a number of groups to take part in a variety of exercises across the Chetwynd Barracks.

In one part of the barracks the aim was to simulate how the army operates during a bomb scare. Teams competed against each other to open car doors from a distance using pully ropes. The purpose of the excercise was to work out which gadgets to use to help open the doors. The two groups then came together to work out how to open the car bonnet.

Around the corner, two other groups were using computers to control robots to pick up a roll of tape and further down the road, players and staff took part in a computer shooting exercise.

After some lunch in the Chetwynd Barracks café, it was time for the physical part as the players had to move around and change the wheels of a field gun. Across the field, other players were dragging tyres and other large objects around an open grass area.

Later in the day, the team undertook an obstacle course which involved moving planks to get from one side to another.

Dinner was not quite so easy and it certainly wasn't cooked for the team, as they were taught how to cook from rations.

The players and the staff also took part in a VR exercise that involved driving a Navy boat and also raced each other to put a firefighter uniform on.

The Nottingham Panthers would like to thank the Army and Navy for being such amazing hosts and to everyone involved who took the time to lend their years of experience to make it such a fulfilling experience for all.

We'd also like to thank Angela Dawson-Jones for helping organise such a fantastic day.
